Introduction

Anthony accepts one or two decorative map commissions each year, dedicating several months to each project. The process is collaborative, requiring a few hours of your time. Often conducted with discretion, especially as many are commissioned as gifts for family members.

Initial discussion

We will begin with an informal discussion about your property and your vision for the map. Initially, we will need just a rough boundary line marked on an existing map. The project scope can be finalized remotely or in person, with Anthony happy to visit your property if desired.

Quotation.

A detailed quotation will be provided, outlining the map’s extent and the surrounding area to be included.

Draft map & site visit

Once a preliminary draft is prepared, Anthony will typically visit the property to deepen his understanding of the landscape. This personal tour, with you, enriches the map, capturing the unique essence of your property. Anthony will use GPS and drones to refine details, and for larger properties, the visit may span several days. He is well-equipped to navigate various terrains, whether by off-road vehicle, four-wheeler, or horseback. Able to be ‘left to get on with it’ on the whole.

Illustrations

For maps featuring illustrations, our artist will use photos provided by you or taken by Anthony during the site visit to ensure accurate and personalized depictions.

Creating the map

Back in the studio, the map begins to take shape. A draft print will be sent to you for review. You can annotate any changes, which will then be incorporated into the final design.

Printing

Once the map and illustrations are finalized, it will be printed on heavyweight, archival-quality paper by a specialist printer in London. The finished map will be securely packaged and shipped to you.

Framing

If desired, Anthony can arrange framing through Derek Tanous, one of Europe’s finest traditional framers. Using 200-year-old wooden moulds, Derek and his team will craft a frame in your chosen style, mount the print, and arrange delivery via specialist courier.

For international transport, Momart, a leading firm in art logistics, will create a custom case for the framed map, handle shipping, manage customs, and can even assist with hanging the map at your home.

Anthony values ongoing relationships with his clients. Many return years later to update their maps as their properties evolve, such as through new land acquisitions or woodland planting. Updating the print can be done relatively easily.

Each map will include a small, personal touch secretly hidden within—be it a truffle in the woods, a turtle encountered during a visit, or a spaniel flushing a quail. While you may never find it, it might be a delightful discovery for future generations.
